Jinan
Jinan is the capital of Shandong province and is famously known as the City of Springs for the natural artesian springs bubbling up throughout its center. With a metropolitan population of around nine million, it is an important industrial, educational, and administrative hub in eastern China. The climate is a temperate monsoon one, with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Its signature attractions include the celebrated Baotu Spring, the scenic Daming Lake, Thousand Buddha Mountain, and Black Tiger Spring. Shandong cuisine, one of China's great regional traditions, offers dishes like sweet-and-sour Yellow River carp and nine-turn large intestine. A growing metro network, Yaoqiang International Airport, and high-speed rail link Jinan closely with Beijing, Qingdao, and Shanghai. For an international student, Jinan offers a rich classical heritage, solid universities, moderate living costs, and an authentic slice of northern Chinese life.
