Meishan is a prefecture-level city in central Sichuan just south of Chengdu, revered as the hometown of the Su family, above all the great Song-dynasty poet Su Dongpo (Su Shi). The Three Su Shrine, a garden-temple honouring the three literary masters, is its cultural heart, and the beloved 'Dongpo pork' dish carries the poet's name. Nearby Wawu Mountain is a mist-shrouded volcanic tableland.
