In Sichuan province

Leshan is a city in southern Sichuan at the confluence of three rivers, world-famous for the Leshan Giant Buddha, a 71-metre statue carved into a cliff face in the Tang dynasty and the largest stone Buddha on earth. Together with nearby Mount Emei, the Buddha forms a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws millions of pilgrims and tourists. The city is also celebrated for its bold Sichuan snack culture, from bobo chicken to sweet-skin duck. Linked by high-speed rail to Chengdu, Leshan is an easy and rewarding day trip in the Sichuan basin.
