Hulunbuir
Hulunbuir, in the far northeast of Inner Mongolia, is one of the largest prefecture-level cities in the world by area and home to the Hulunbuir Grassland, often called China's finest and most unspoiled steppe. In summer its rolling green pastures, dotted with grazing herds and winding rivers, draw travelers from across the country, while winter brings deep snow and ice festivals. The region blends Mongol, Daur, Ewenki and Russian cultures; the town of Enhe preserves a community of ethnic Russians, and the border city of Manzhouli is a bustling trade gateway to Russia. Vast Hulun Lake anchors the local ecosystem. The administrative seat, Hailar, has an airport and railway making the grassland accessible year-round.
