📖 About the university

Luohe Vocational University of Food Engineering traces its history to the Luohe Machine Manufacturing Technician School, founded in 1985, which was reorganised as the Luohe Food Industry School in 2000 and upgraded to a higher-vocational institution, Luohe Food Vocational College, in 2009. In June 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its transformation into a bachelor's-level vocational university under its current name, and the university was formally unveiled on 6 July 2024 alongside the launch of the Central Plains Food Laboratory, a major food-science research initiative. It is based in Luohe, Henan province, a city widely promoted as 'China's Food City' and home to major food companies such as the Shuanghui (WH) Group, giving the university close ties to the local food-processing industry. As of May 2025 it comprised nine teaching schools and departments, including the School of Food and Bioengineering, the School of Food Quality and Safety, the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, the School of Nutrition and Culinary Arts, the School of Information Engineering and the School of Economics and Management, offering seven bachelor's programmes and 34 higher-vocational specialities. A distinctive feature of the university is its ten industry-linked colleges established jointly with leading food and technology companies, including Shuanghui, Weilong and JD.com, which embed corporate training resources directly into the curriculum. This corporate-partnership model reflects the broader national strategy of building applied, industry-integrated vocational undergraduate universities rather than research universities. The institution mainly serves Chinese students pursuing careers in food engineering, food safety and the culinary industry, and it does not currently operate a significant international-student programme.
