📖 About the university
Guangzhou Vocational and Technical University of Science and Technology, known in Chinese shorthand as Guangkeda, is a private vocational university and one of the first batch of undergraduate-level vocational universities piloted in China. It was founded in 1999 by the Guangdong Jingda economic development company as the Guangdong Nanda College, was upgraded by the provincial government into Guangzhou Vocational and Technical College of Science and Technology in 2004, moved wholesale to a new campus in Zhongluotan town of Baiyun district in 2008, and in May 2018 was raised to undergraduate vocational level, receiving its present university name from the Ministry of Education on 23 May 2019. The university teaches about 24,000 students on some 1,607 mu across two campuses: the Guangzhou campus in Baiyun district and a Binhai campus opened in 2018 in Dianbai district of Maoming on the western Guangdong coast. Teaching units include schools of automation engineering, art and media, artificial intelligence and big data, foreign languages and trade, construction engineering, health, economics and management and an international school, supported by applied research institutes in robotics, new-energy vehicles and green materials. The orientation is squarely practical, producing technicians and engineers for the Pearl River Delta manufacturing belt; instruction is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and a historic trading port on the Pearl River, long serving as China's gateway to the world. With a metropolitan population of around 19 million, it is one of the country's largest and most commercially dynamic cities, home to a substantial international community.
