📖 About the university

Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) traces its origins to the Mong Kok Workers' Night School, founded on 1 August 1947 by the Hong Kong Kowloon Labour Education Association as one of five night schools created to provide basic literacy education to the city's labouring population in the years after the Second World War. Over more than seventy-five years its curriculum evolved in step with Hong Kong's economy, moving from literacy classes in the 1940s and 1950s through skilled-trades training in the 1960s, professional education in the 1970s and 1980s, and post-secondary study from the 2000s onward, and the institution formally adopted the name Hong Kong College of Technology in 1987. In 2014 it established HKCT Institute of Higher Education (CTIHE) as a degree-awarding subsidiary, extending the college's mission into bachelor's- and master's-level study. HKCT today operates campuses in Ma On Shan and Ho Man Tin, offering government-funded and self-financed programmes spanning sports science, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, social science, social work, and early childhood education, alongside a large base of higher diploma and vocational courses serving thousands of part-time and full-time students. Its long history as a grassroots workers' education institution gives it a distinctive social mission among Hong Kong's higher-education providers, emphasising applied skills and accessible pathways into professional careers. It is best suited to students seeking practical, career-focused study, particularly those progressing from vocational or sub-degree routes into applied bachelor's and master's programmes.

🌆 About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region on the southern coast of China and one of the world's leading financial, trading, and logistics hubs, where Cantonese Chinese culture blends seamlessly with a British-influenced international outlook. Built around one of the finest deep-water harbours in the world, the territory packs a dramatic skyline of skyscrapers against steep green mountains and outlying islands, with Victoria Harbour at its heart. Its climate is humid subtropical, bringing hot, humid summers with occasional typhoons and mild, dry winters. English and Chinese are both official languages, and the city is famous for its efficient MTR metro, double-decker trams and buses, and Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Everyday life mixes Michelin-starred dining and dim sum teahouses with street markets, temples, hiking trails, and beaches, all within easy reach. For an international student, Hong Kong offers a concentration of world-ranked universities, a genuinely global environment, and easy travel across Asia, though living costs and rents are among the highest in the region.
