📖 About the university

ShanghaiTech University, founded in 2013, is a small, research-intensive public university created jointly by the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Located in the heart of Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Pudong, it sits amid national laboratories and global R&D centres, giving students direct access to major science facilities. It is deliberately compact — around 2,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students across five schools and several research institutes — with an English-friendly, internationally recruited faculty. Its research targets frontier fields including energy, materials, the environment, human health and artificial intelligence, and it is closely tied to CAS institutes for graduate training. In just over a decade it has become one of China's most selective and globally connected young research universities.
