Xinjiang Medical University is a public medical university in Urumqi, the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, founded in 1954. It is the leading medical institution in Xinjiang, offering clinical medicine, basic medicine, public health, pharmacy and, distinctively, traditional Uyghur medicine. The university operates several large affiliated hospitals serving the vast, ethnically diverse region.
