📖 About the university

Shandong Agriculture and Engineering University is a public undergraduate institution based in the Licheng district of Jinan, a provincial-level unit directly under the Shandong provincial government and one of the few universities in the province devoted specifically to agricultural engineering. Its predecessor was the Shandong provincial cadre school founded in June 1971, which was reorganised in 1983, with provincial approval and central registration, as the Shandong Provincial Institute of Agricultural Management Cadres, an adult higher-education college for the agricultural sector. In April 2013 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a full-time undergraduate institution under the present name, and the university has since operated across more than one Shandong city; as of September 2024 it worked from campuses in Jinan and Zibo with grounds of about 3,122 mu and total building floor area of roughly 622,100 square metres. Sixteen secondary colleges and departments cover food science and engineering, mechanical and electronic engineering, information science and engineering, land resources and surveying engineering, environmental science and engineering, landscape science and engineering, economics and management, accounting, humanities, arts and Marxism, together with an international exchange and cooperation college, a cadre in-service college and a continuing-education college. Facilities reported for the same period include teaching and research equipment worth about 145.7 million yuan, 86 laboratories and a library of some 1.49 million printed volumes, with a teaching staff of about 579. The academic profile is deliberately applied and rooted in the rural economy: food processing and food safety, agricultural mechanisation and electrical automation, land survey and land-resource management, facility agriculture, horticulture and landscape architecture, animal husbandry and veterinary technology, and rural energy and environmental technology, alongside logistics, agricultural economics and accounting. Many programmes run at both undergraduate and junior-college level and some are taught in cooperation with enterprises or with Australian partners, which reflects the school's origin as a training college for the agricultural cadres and technicians of one of China's largest farming provinces.

🌆 About Jinan

Jinan is the capital of Shandong province and is famously known as the City of Springs for the natural artesian springs bubbling up throughout its center. With a metropolitan population of around nine million, it is an important industrial, educational, and administrative hub in eastern China. The climate is a temperate monsoon one, with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Its signature attractions include the celebrated Baotu Spring, the scenic Daming Lake, Thousand Buddha Mountain, and Black Tiger Spring. Shandong cuisine, one of China's great regional traditions, offers dishes like sweet-and-sour Yellow River carp and nine-turn large intestine. A growing metro network, Yaoqiang International Airport, and high-speed rail link Jinan closely with Beijing, Qingdao, and Shanghai. For an international student, Jinan offers a rich classical heritage, solid universities, moderate living costs, and an authentic slice of northern Chinese life.
