📖 About the university

Shanghai Ocean University, established in 1912 as the Jiangsu Provincial Fisheries School, is one of China's oldest and most distinguished universities devoted to fisheries, aquaculture and marine science. Jointly built by the Shanghai Municipal Government, the State Oceanic Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, its fisheries programme was included in China's national world-class-discipline programme in 2017. In 2008 the whole university relocated to a spacious modern campus in Lingang New City near the sea in southern Pudong. It is a multi-disciplinary institution spanning agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management and the arts, but its identity remains firmly rooted in the ocean — from deep-sea fisheries and aquatic-product processing to marine ecology and polar research. The university trains many of China's specialists in sustainable fisheries and seafood technology and hosts international students in these fields.
