📖 About the university

Kunming Metallurgy College is a public full-time higher vocational college in Yunnan Province, engineering-led but also covering management, humanities, business, art and sport. Founded in 1952, it grew out of the metallurgical industry of south-west China and has built up a long engineering tradition and a strong culture of practical engineering training. It was one of the first fifty-six institutions selected nationwide as a Chinese-characteristic high-level higher vocational school under the 'Double High' plan, and it is also a national demonstration higher vocational college, a national high-quality vocational college and a Yunnan high-level vocational college. The campus covers more than 1,240 mu in Kunming, the mild 'Spring City' capital of Yunnan on the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau. About twenty-two thousand full-time students study there in sixteen secondary colleges offering seventy-eight higher vocational specialisms. Its metallurgical, surveying, mechatronics and environmental-engineering programmes are closely tied to the mining, non-ferrous metals and infrastructure industries of Yunnan and the wider south-west, and its position near the borders with Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar has made it active in vocational-training cooperation with South-East Asia.

🌆 About Kunming

Kunming is the capital of Yunnan province and is famously nicknamed the Spring City for its exceptionally mild, temperate climate. With a metropolitan population of around eight million, it sits on a high plateau beside Dianchi Lake and serves as China's gateway to Southeast Asia. Thanks to its elevation, it enjoys spring-like weather all year, with warm days, cool nights, and neither harsh summers nor cold winters. Attractions include the vast Dianchi Lake, the tranquil Green Lake Park, the surrounding Western Hills, and the extraordinary karst Stone Forest a short trip away. Yunnan cuisine is distinctive and diverse, best known for crossing-the-bridge rice noodles, steam-pot chicken, and a huge variety of wild mushrooms. A modern metro network, Changshui International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it to Guiyang, Chengdu, and beyond. For an international student, Kunming offers a uniquely pleasant climate, ethnic and cultural diversity, affordable living, and a relaxed pace of life.
