📖 About the university

Qinghai Vocational and Technical University traces its origins to the Qinghai Communications School, founded in December 1976, which was upgraded in April 2002, with approval from the Qinghai provincial government and the Ministry of Education, into the Qinghai Communications Vocational and Technical College. In May 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its transformation into a full-time public bachelor's-level institution under its present name, Qinghai Vocational and Technical University, making it one of the first vocational undergraduate universities on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The university is based in Xining, the capital of Qinghai province and the region's principal transport and administrative hub at an altitude of over 2,200 metres. As of December 2024 it comprised 11 secondary colleges, including the School of Transportation, the School of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering, the School of Information Management, the School of Chemical Engineering and Automation, the School of Energy Materials and the School of Ecological Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, together with a Marxism school and the affiliated Qinghai Industrial Technician College. It offers six bachelor's-degree programmes alongside 36 higher-vocational specialist programmes, reflecting its focus on engineering, transport, energy and agricultural technology relevant to Qinghai's economy. As one of the newest members of China's expanding vocational-undergraduate sector, it is not part of the Project 985/211 or Double First-Class tiers, but it plays an important regional role in training technical talent for northwest China. International enrolment is not yet a significant feature of the university, and prospective foreign applicants should expect a primarily Chinese-medium, domestically oriented campus.
