📖 About the university

Xinyang University is a full-time private undergraduate university located in Xinyang, a green, tea-growing city in the far south of Henan Province at the meeting point of the Henan, Hubei and Anhui borders. Its predecessor, the Huarui College of Xinyang Normal University, was founded in 2003 as an independent college; in 2016 it was approved by the Ministry of Education to convert into an independently run private undergraduate university, becoming the first private undergraduate institution in southern Henan. The university comprises fourteen secondary colleges, including the schools of literature, foreign languages, business, education, mechanical, electrical and automotive engineering, biology and chemical engineering, computer and artificial intelligence, art and design, music, and intelligent construction. It offers fifty-seven undergraduate programmes spanning literature, history, science, engineering, economics, management, law, education and the arts, and has been approved as a candidate unit for building master's degree authorisation. With four provincial key disciplines and several provincial first-class major programmes, it combines the teacher-training heritage of its parent institution with a broad, applied and increasingly comprehensive academic profile.

Xinyang is a prefecture-level city in the far south of Henan Province, where the North China Plain gives way to the Dabie Mountains and the borders of Hubei and Anhui. Known as a green and watery city by northern Chinese standards, it is famous nationwide for Xinyang Maojian green tea and enjoys a mild, humid subtropical-transitional climate with more rain and vegetation than most of Henan.
