📖 About the university

Chaoyang Normal University is a public teacher-training institution in Chaoyang, a historic city in western Liaoning Province known for its dinosaur and bird fossils and ancient pagodas. The school traces its history to the Chaoyang Normal Specialized School founded in 1960; after being merged with several local teacher-training and adult-education institutions and operating for decades as Chaoyang Normal College (a higher vocational college), it was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2024 to become a full undergraduate university and began undergraduate enrolment that autumn. Its first undergraduate programmes are concentrated in teacher education, including preschool education, primary education, Chinese language and literature, English, mathematics and applied mathematics, and computer science and technology. The university plans to expand to eighteen undergraduate programmes by 2028 and around forty by 2035 as it develops into a regional centre for training teachers. As a normal university, its core strengths lie in the education disciplines and in preparing teachers for kindergartens and primary schools across northeastern China. It suits students who want an affordable, education-focused public university in a smaller Liaoning city with deep cultural and archaeological heritage.
