📖 About the university

Honghe University is a public comprehensive undergraduate university located in Mengzi, the capital of the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southern Yunnan Province. Its predecessor, Mengzi Normal College, was founded in 1978, and the present university was formed in April 2003 when the college merged with the Honghe branch of the Yunnan Radio and Television University, with approval from the Ministry of Education. Co-sponsored by the Yunnan provincial government and the Honghe prefecture government, the university occupies a campus of about 1,200 mu with a total building area of some 276,000 square meters and roughly 15,000 students. It is organized into around thirteen colleges covering humanities, politics and international relations, science, life science and technology, engineering, mathematics, business, teacher education, foreign languages, music, arts, physical education and an international college. Given its location near the border with Vietnam, the university is noted for teacher education, Southeast Asian studies and research on the region's rich ethnic minority cultures. Honghe University welcomes international students, particularly from neighboring Southeast Asian countries, and offers Chinese-language programs.
