📖 About the university

Beijing Industrial Vocational and Technical College is a public higher vocational college in the capital, engineering-led and independently established, run under the Beijing municipal education authorities. It traces its origins to 1956, when it was founded as a secondary technical school under the Ministry of Coal Industry, later becoming Beijing Coal Industry School; it began offering higher vocational education in 1994 and was formally converted into a vocational and technical college in 1999. In 2007 it was selected for the national demonstration higher vocational college construction plan, one of about a hundred colleges given key national support during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, and it passed the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance acceptance review with distinction in July 2010; it is now also a member of the national 'Double High' plan. The campus occupies about 360 mu with some 190,000 square metres of buildings in Shijingshan District in western Beijing, next to the Western Hills scenic area, and is known for its green, quiet setting. It has around 488 staff including 327 full-time teachers and enrols more than 6,800 full-time students, organised into nine teaching departments plus a School of International Education. Its five professional clusters cover eight broad discipline categories and thirty-six specialisms, with particular strength in mechatronics, surveying and geographic information, intelligent manufacturing and the safety and mining fields inherited from its coal-industry roots.

🌆 About Beijing

Beijing is China's capital and the political, cultural, and educational heart of the country, home to its leading government institutions and many of its top universities. With a metropolitan population of around 21 million spread across sixteen districts, it is a vast city that blends imperial history with cutting-edge modernity. The climate is temperate and continental, bringing hot, humid summers and cold, dry, and often windy winters. Its landmarks are world-famous, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, and the Great Wall winding through the surrounding mountains. Local food ranges from crispy Peking roast duck to zhajiangmian noodles and street-side jianbing pancakes. Getting around is easy thanks to one of the world's largest metro systems, major international airports, and high-speed rail links to the entire country. For an international student, Beijing offers an unmatched concentration of universities, libraries, museums, and cultural life, though the pace is fast and living costs are among the highest in China.
