📖 About the university

Shaanxi Railway Institute is the only higher vocational college in China named after railway engineering, and it remains the country's leading trainer of front-line technicians for railway construction. It was founded in 1973 as the Weinan Railway Engineering School under the Ministry of Railways, was transferred to the Shaanxi provincial government in 2002 and was upgraded to higher vocational college status in 2003. The institute is a construction unit of the national plan for Chinese-characteristic high-level higher vocational schools and specialisms and a national high-quality vocational college. It operates two campuses in Weinan in eastern Shaanxi — the Linwei campus on the east section of Zhanbei Street and the High-Tech Zone campus on the west section of Shengli Street — with a combined area of about 1,050 mu. Some fifteen thousand students of all kinds study there in eight teaching departments, every one of them named after an engineering field: railway, highway and bridge, building, urban rail transit, surveying, mechanical and electrical, and engineering management. Its close partnership with China Railway construction bureaus gives students site-based training on real high-speed-rail projects, and its graduates are found on railway construction sites throughout western China.
