📖 About the university

Lijiang Normal University is a full-time public undergraduate university sponsored by the Yunnan provincial government and located in the historic city of Lijiang in northwestern Yunnan. Its origins reach back to a normal-training class founded in 1906, and the institution developed through Lijiang Teachers College before being approved by the Ministry of Education in May 2024 to become the undergraduate Lijiang Normal University, making it the only provincial public undergraduate university in the Lijiang region. The university is organised into around ten teaching colleges, including Teacher Education, Preschool Education, Tourism and Economic Management, Arts, Applied Technology, Physical Education and Health, Foreign Languages, Literature and Media, and Mathematics and Information Technology. Its first batch of undergraduate programmes covers primary education, physical education, English, biological science and fine arts, reflecting a teacher-training core supplemented by tourism and applied fields suited to the surrounding region. The campus occupies roughly 940 mu and serves a student body drawn largely from Yunnan and neighbouring provinces, with a strong emphasis on preparing schoolteachers for the ethnically diverse counties of the northwest. As a newly upgraded undergraduate institution focused on teacher education, it primarily enrols domestic students and does not yet advertise a dedicated Chinese-language pathway for international applicants.
