Jiamusi University is the largest comprehensive university in eastern Heilongjiang, located in the border city of Jiamusi near Russia, with roots dating to 1947. It is best known for medicine and stomatology (dentistry) — its dental school is among the most respected in northeast China — and it also covers materials, mechanical engineering and pharmacy. The university operates several affiliated hospitals that serve the far-northeastern frontier region and trains many doctors and dentists for the area. Its academic breadth spans medicine, engineering, science, agriculture, economics and the arts. International students are welcomed into English-taught MBBS and Chinese-language programs.
