Hunan City University is a public undergraduate university located in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, and administered by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. Its origins date to 1970 with the founding of Yiyang Normal College, and the present institution was established in 2002 through the merger of Hunan City College and Yiyang Normal College. As its name suggests, the university has a distinctive focus on urbanization, with recognized strengths in civil engineering, urban and rural planning, architecture and municipal engineering. It is organized into schools covering civil engineering, architecture and urban planning, management, information and electrical engineering, and other fields. The university serves the construction and urban-development industries of Hunan and central China and enrolls a large body of full-time undergraduates. Hunan City University also accepts international students and provides Chinese-language study opportunities.
