📖 About the university

Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical University traces its history to a cluster of railway-affiliated schools founded from 1951 onward; in 1999 the Zhengzhou Railway Machinery School, the Zhengzhou Railway Health School, the Zhengzhou Railway Education College and the Zhengzhou Railway Normal School merged to form the Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical College, described as the first standalone higher-vocational college within China's national railway system. In June 2026 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's level as Zhengzhou Railway Vocational and Technical University, on the basis of the former college, as part of a nationwide batch of newly approved vocational undergraduate universities. The university is based in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province and one of China's most important railway hubs, a location that underpins its long-standing specialisation in rail-transport education. It is organised into 16 teaching schools and departments plus five residential colleges, covering nine broad fields, including transportation, medicine and health, electronic information, finance and trade, civil engineering, equipment manufacturing, culture and the arts, tourism, and food and pharmaceuticals, across roughly 60 degree and specialist programmes. Its academic profile is deliberately built around three core industries -- rail-transit operations, medicine and health, and electronic information -- reflecting the university's historical mission of supplying technical talent to China's railway system while diversifying into adjacent sectors. As a newly promoted vocational undergraduate institution rather than a Project 985/211 or Double First-Class university, its strength lies in applied, industry-linked training rather than research output. The university currently enrols primarily Chinese students preparing for careers in rail transport and related industries, and it does not yet operate a dedicated international-student admissions programme.
