📖 About the university

Ningxia Normal University is a public teacher-training university in Guyuan, in the mountainous south of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It began in 1975 as Liupanshan University, approved by the regional party committee, and in 1978 the State Council authorised the founding of Ningxia Guyuan Normal College on that base. The institution was renamed Guyuan Normal College in 1993, upgraded to full undergraduate status as Ningxia Normal Institute in 2006, and in June 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its renaming to Ningxia Normal University. It operates two campuses in Yuanzhou District of Guyuan — the Guyuan campus on Xueyuan Road and the Wenyuan campus on Wenhua Lane — and teaches across literature, mathematics and computer science, foreign languages, education, physics and electronic information engineering, chemistry, politics and history, and music and dance. As the only normal university serving the Liupanshan region, it is the principal source of primary and secondary school teachers for a largely rural, heavily Hui Muslim part of China. That setting makes it unusually familiar to Muslim students: halal catering and a Hui-majority local community are ordinary features of daily life in Guyuan rather than special provisions.
