📖 About the university

Gannan University of Science and Technology is a public full-time undergraduate institution in Zhanggong district of Ganzhou, the largest city of southern Jiangxi and the centre of China's rare-earth and tungsten mining country. It was established in April 2001 as the Xidian College of the Southern Institute of Metallurgy, was renamed the college of applied science in 2002, and from 2004 carried the name Applied Science College of Jiangxi University of Science and Technology as that parent university — the metallurgical university of the south — changed its own name. On 18 December 2020 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into an independently constituted institution, and in the process it became public, one of the minority of independent colleges converted into government-run schools. The parentage matters: Jiangxi University of Science and Technology is the country's traditional trainer of nonferrous-metals engineers, and the converted college keeps an applied portfolio in metallurgy- and mining-adjacent engineering, materials, mechanical and electrical engineering, information technology and management, serving the rare-earth, tungsten and electronics industries that anchor Ganzhou's economy. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.
