📖 About the university

Xinjiang Engineering Vocational University traces its earliest roots to a technician training class at the Urumqi No. 2 Steel Plant in 1978, though its immediate predecessor, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) Xingxin Vocational and Technical College, was formally constituted in November 2013 through the merger of the XPCC Advanced Technical School, the XPCC Industrial and Trade School, and the XPCC Vocational Technician Training Institute. On 28 May 2026 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's level under its current name, with the predecessor college's registration formally revoked. The university is located in Tiemenguan, a city administered directly by the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in southern Xinjiang, and it remains affiliated with the Corps, a unique paramilitary-economic organisation responsible for large parts of Xinjiang's agricultural and industrial development. At the time of its upgrade the institution reported around 605 faculty members and roughly 10,456 students, making it a mid-sized addition to Xinjiang's higher-education system. As an XPCC-affiliated institution, its engineering and technical programmes are closely tied to the construction, resource-development and agricultural-mechanisation needs of the Corps' economic activities across southern Xinjiang. The university is one of several vocational colleges across Xinjiang (including the Corps region) upgraded to bachelor's level as part of the Ministry of Education's 2026 national expansion of vocational undergraduate education. It is not part of the Project 985/211 or Double First-Class categories, and it currently serves primarily students connected to the XPCC system and the wider Xinjiang region, without an established international-admissions track.
