Qufu Normal University is based in Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius, and was founded in 1955. Fittingly, it is a national centre for Confucian studies and traditional Chinese culture, alongside strong programmes in education. The university is also notably strong in mathematics, where its research and graduate output rank among the best of China's provincial universities. It trains large numbers of secondary-school teachers for Shandong. International students are drawn to its unique setting for the study of Chinese culture and language.
