📖 About the university

Hubei Enshi College is a private undergraduate institution on Xueyuan Road in Enshi, the seat of the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the mountains of southwest Hubei. It was founded in 2003 as the College of Science and Technology of the Hubei Institute for Nationalities, the independent college of the prefecture's public minzu university, sharing that parent's teaching resources and enrolling nationwide; when the parent was renamed Hubei Minzu University in December 2018 the college followed suit, and on 2 February 2021 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a free-standing private institution under the present name, wholly held by the prefecture's Changqing education development company. The college has taught more than ten thousand students across 29 bachelor and 15 associate programmes, and it has carried undergraduate ethnic-minority classes and preparatory classes — a legacy of its minzu-university parentage that remains rare among private colleges. Medicine, nursing and health programmes inherited from the parent's medical schools sit beside economics, management, engineering and humanities tracks, serving a prefecture where trained professionals are scarce. It is the only undergraduate institution based in Enshi apart from its former parent. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.
