📖 About the university

Yunnan Vocational University of Communications was formed by integrating the resources of two transport-focused institutions -- the Yunnan Communications Vocational and Technical College and the Yunnan Vocational College of Transportation -- and was formally approved by the Ministry of Education and unveiled on 29 June 2026, filling what officials described as a gap in bachelor's-level transport vocational education in Yunnan province. The Yunnan Communications Vocational and Technical College itself dated back to the Yunnan Kunming Communications Technical School, founded in 1952, and merged in April 2001 with the Yunnan Communications Workers' Secondary Specialized School and the Yunnan Highway Bureau Workers' University, while the Yunnan Vocational College of Transportation traced its roots to 1953 and was formally reconstituted in 2017 under the provincial Department of Transport. The new university's main campus is in Chenggong, part of Kunming's university town district, in the heart of the Yunnan-Guizhou plateau. Its first cohort of bachelor's students enrolled in 2026 across five inaugural programmes: road and bridge engineering, new-energy vehicle engineering technology, aircraft maintenance engineering technology, modern logistics management, and intelligent transportation management, reflecting a deliberate expansion beyond road transport into aviation and logistics. This breadth links directly to Yunnan's strategic position as a transport corridor linking China with Southeast Asia, giving the university's programmes a practical relevance to regional infrastructure development. As a newly formed vocational undergraduate university rather than a Project 985/211 or Double First-Class institution, it concentrates on applied training for transport-engineering and logistics careers rather than academic research. The university currently enrols mainly domestic students, and it has not yet established a dedicated international-admissions programme.
