📖 About the university

Tianjin Vocational Institute is a full-time public higher-vocational college sponsored by the Tianjin municipality and located in the Beichen district of the city. It was founded in 1978 from campuses of Nankai University reorganised as the Tianjin University Chemical Engineering Branch, was reconstituted in 1982 as Tianjin City Vocational University, and was renamed Tianjin Vocational Institute in 2019. It is one of the first twenty-eight national demonstrative higher-vocational colleges and a high-level (double-high) A-list college, and it is organised into around twelve teaching units, among them the Schools of Mechatronics and Automation, Electronic Information Engineering, Bioengineering and Environmental Engineering, Economics and Management, and Optometry Engineering. The institute is nationally distinctive for its optometry and eyeglass technology programmes and for packaging engineering, alongside strengths in mechatronics, electronics and bioengineering, and it works closely with Tianjin's manufacturing and services industries. It enrols a large body of students preparing for skilled technical and commercial careers in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. As an applied vocational college it enrols primarily domestic students and does not currently advertise a dedicated Chinese-language pathway for international applicants.
