Zhaotong University is a public undergraduate university in Zhaotong, a city in northeastern Yunnan province near the borders with Sichuan and Guizhou. It traces its modern history to the Zhaotong Teachers College founded in 1978 and was upgraded to a full undergraduate university in 2012. The university trains teachers and applied professionals for the mountainous northeastern Yunnan region and offers programs across the humanities, sciences, agriculture and management. It is an important educational center for the Wumeng Mountains area.
