Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT), with roots in a 1950 postal-and-telecommunications training class, is a specialised information-and-communications university in Xi'an, the historic capital of Shaanxi. It was formally established as a college by State Council approval in 1959 and renamed a university in 2012, growing into a polytechnic institution centred on information science and technology. Its core strengths lie in telecommunications engineering, computer science, electronic information and, increasingly, cybersecurity, aligning closely with China's telecoms and internet industries. Across two campuses at Chang'an and Yanta, it hosts nearly 20,000 students and around 1,700 staff, with several doctoral and master's authorisation points.
