Kashgar University is a public university in Kashgar, in the far west of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, founded in 1962 and granted university status in 2015. It is the westernmost university in China, serving the largely Uyghur population of southern Xinjiang. Its strengths lie in teacher education, Chinese language teaching and studies of the languages and cultures of Central Asia. The university plays an important role in education and regional development along the Silk Road.
