The Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts (LAFA) in Shenyang traces its origins to the Lu Xun Art Academy founded in Yan'an in 1938, making it one of the earliest art schools created under the Communist Party and one of China's eight major fine-art academies. Named after the great writer Lu Xun, it is especially renowned for monumental sculpture and public art, having produced many of the country's landmark revolutionary monuments and reliefs. Its programmes span fine art, sculpture, design, visual communication and Chinese painting. The academy serves as the leading art institution of northeast China, with campuses in Shenyang and Dalian. It welcomes international students interested in Chinese fine art and large-scale sculpture.
