📖 About the university
Tarim University in Alar, founded in 1958, is a university on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert in southern Xinjiang, built to develop agriculture and the economy of this arid Silk Road region. It specialises in agronomy, horticulture (notably desert fruits such as the region's famous red dates and walnuts), animal science, water resources and plant protection. It plays a central role in oasis agriculture and rural development. Its campus lies on the ancient southern Silk Road. The university welcomes international students, notably from Central Asia, interested in agriculture and arid-zone science.
