Hebei Medical University in Shijiazhuang traces its origins to the Beiyang Medical School founded in Tianjin in 1894 — the first government-run western medical school in China. It is the leading medical university of Hebei Province and is strong in clinical medicine, forensic medicine and pharmacy. The university operates several large affiliated hospitals that serve the densely populated region around Beijing. Its long history gives it deep traditions in medical education and research.
