📖 About the university

Henan Sport University is the only dedicated higher institution of physical education in Henan Province, run by the Henan provincial government and supervised by the Henan Provincial Sports Bureau. It was first established in 1958 as Henan Sport University, was renamed Zhengzhou Institute of Physical Education in 1960 and suspended in 1962 during the years of economic difficulty, then re-founded in 1984 as the Henan Provincial Sports Technical College. In 1992 it was incorporated into Zhengzhou University as the Physical Education College of Zhengzhou University while keeping independent legal-person status, and in 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its separation and the restoration of the name Henan Sport University. The university operates three sites — the main Zhengzhou campus at 2 Yinhe Street in Huiji District, a campus in Dengfeng at the foot of Mount Song, and a training base in Wen County — covering close to 1,300 mu in total. It enrols about 6,140 full-time undergraduates and jointly trains around 110 master's students with Zhengzhou University, supported by more than 430 staff of whom over 390 are full-time teachers. It offers nine undergraduate programmes spanning education, literature, management and the arts, with one provincial key discipline, three provincial first-class majors and five provincial characteristic majors, and its Dengfeng campus places wushu and traditional Chinese martial arts training in the historic homeland of Shaolin kung fu.

Zhengzhou is the capital of Henan province and one of China's most important railway junctions, sitting near the Yellow River in the densely populated heart of the country.
