📖 About the university

Sichuan Vocational and Technical College of Communications is a public university in Chengdu, Sichuan province, affiliated with the Sichuan Provincial Department of Transport. It was founded in 1952 as Sichuan Communications School, changed its name five times and moved campuses four times over the following decades, and in 2001 was approved by the provincial government to become a higher vocational and technical college. In 2007 it was designated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance as a candidate for national demonstrative higher-vocational-college status, a distinction it formally achieved in 2010, and it has since been elevated to full vocational-bachelor's status under its present university name. The college is organised into departments covering roads and bridges, automotive engineering, economics and management, computer engineering, humanities and social sciences, civil engineering, automation engineering, shipping engineering, and general education, reflecting its founding mission of training the technical workforce for Sichuan's road, bridge and transport infrastructure. It is not part of the Project 985, Project 211 or Double First-Class programmes, functioning instead as one of Sichuan's leading applied institutions for transport-related engineering education.

The university's campus sits in Chengdu's Wenjiang district and covers just over 1,000 mu, with more than 700 faculty members and around 13,000 students. Given its direct affiliation with the provincial transport authority, the college maintains close working ties to Sichuan's road, bridge and highway construction sector and has long supplied technicians and engineers for the province's transport infrastructure projects, an especially significant role given Sichuan's mountainous terrain and complex highway-engineering needs. At present it enrolls primarily domestic Chinese students preparing for technical careers in transport engineering and does not advertise a dedicated Chinese-language pathway for international applicants. Its more than seventy years of continuous operation as a transport-focused technical school, together with its national demonstrative-college status and recent elevation to bachelor's-degree level, make it one of the more established and specialised vocational-bachelor's universities in southwestern China.
