📖 About the university
Nanchang Vocational University is a private university in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, whose roots go back to the Jiangxi Dayu Business and Economics Institute founded in June 1993; the school was reorganised as Jiangxi Dayu Vocational and Technical College in 2003, renamed Nanchang Vocational College in 2011, and in December 2018 was approved by the Ministry of Education to become a vocational-bachelor's institution, adopting its present name of Nanchang Vocational University in May 2019 as one of the first group of pilot schools in China's new vocational-bachelor's education system. Although a comparatively young institution, the university has developed quickly, and it has been recognised with national teaching awards and more than a hundred provincial-level programme upgrades since gaining bachelor's status. It is organised around schools of economics and management, engineering, information technology, humanities and foreign languages, art and design, music and dance, physical education and health, and a dedicated entrepreneurship college, reflecting its practical, career-oriented approach to higher education. As a private vocational-bachelor's university it is not part of the Project 985, Project 211 or Double First-Class programmes, and it primarily serves students preparing for technical and applied careers within Jiangxi and the wider region.
The university has built academic exchange links with universities in Taiwan and has invited outside scholars, including professors from National Tsing Hua University, to lecture on its campus, and it also partners with the Chery automotive group to develop practically oriented, industry-linked training programmes. Its campus sits on the site of the historic Beijin City of the Han dynasty on the banks of the Xiang River area of Anyi County near Nanchang. It currently focuses on domestic students and does not offer a dedicated Chinese-language track for international applicants, in keeping with its identity as a regional, career-focused vocational university rather than an internationally oriented research institution. Nonetheless its rapid rise from a small private business college to a nationally recognised vocational-bachelor's university makes it a notable example of the growth of applied higher education in inland China.
