📖 About the university

Northeastern University (NEU) is a public research university in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province in north-east China, founded in 1923, and it is a leading engineering university in the country's traditional industrial heartland. It is included in Project 985, Project 211, and the Double First-Class initiative. NEU is especially known for automation and control engineering, metallurgy, materials science, computer science, and mining engineering, and it has historically been a pioneer in industrial automation and control theory in China. Its strengths align closely with the heavy industry of the north-east.

Based in Shenyang, a major industrial city, the university offers modern campuses, well-equipped laboratories, and strong ties to the manufacturing and metals sectors. NEU maintains international collaborations and hosts a considerable international student community. International applicants can study the Chinese language and prepare for the HSK, and the university offers a range of degree programs, including English-taught options at the graduate level in engineering. It is well suited to academically strong, technically minded students interested in automation, control, metallurgy, materials science, or computer science.

🌆 About Shenyang

Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning province and the largest city of China's northeastern rust belt, historically the seat of the early Qing dynasty. With a metropolitan population of around nine million, it is a major heavy-industry and transport center known for its imperial and revolutionary history. The climate is cold temperate, with warm summers and long, cold, dry winters. Its foremost landmark is the Shenyang Imperial Palace, a smaller counterpart to Beijing's Forbidden City, alongside the Zhaoling tomb in Beiling Park and Marshal Zhang's Mansion. Northeastern cuisine features hearty dishes like Laobian dumplings, sweet-and-sour guobaorou, and sauerkraut-and-pork stews. A growing metro network, Taoxian International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it to Dalian, Changchun, and Beijing. For an international student, Shenyang offers low living costs, strong engineering and medical universities, and an authentic experience of industrial northern China.
