📖 About the university

Shangqiu University is a full-time private undergraduate university located in Shangqiu, a historic city in eastern Henan Province long celebrated as a birthplace of Chinese commerce. It was founded in 2002, when Henan Agricultural University and the Shangqiu Chunlai Education Group jointly established what became the Huayu College of Henan Agricultural University; in April 2011 the Ministry of Education approved its transformation into an independently run private university under its present name. The university is organised into teaching units such as the schools of economics and management, mechanical and electrical information, computer engineering, art and media, humanities, foreign languages, and landscape architecture and building. It offers around forty-nine undergraduate programmes alongside vocational courses, forming a multidisciplinary structure led by engineering but spanning agriculture, management, arts, literature, education, science and economics. With an applied, employment-oriented approach, it serves the wider Shangqiu region and the Yellow River flood-plain economy of eastern Henan, training practical graduates for industry, commerce and the creative sectors.

Shangqiu is a prefecture-level city in the far east of Henan Province, on the North China Plain near the borders with Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong. An ancient settlement revered as one of the origins of Chinese commerce and once a capital of early dynasties, it retains a well-preserved Ming-era walled old town surrounded by a moat. With a population of over seven million in its wider area, it is an agricultural and light-industrial centre and a busy junction on the east-west and north-south high-speed rail network. The climate is warm temperate and continental, with hot, rainy summers and cold, dry winters.
