The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, founded in 1918 as China's first national art school, is the country's most prestigious institution of fine art and design. It brings together traditional Chinese painting, Western-style fine art, design, architecture, experimental art and art history under one roof, and its faculty and alumni include many of modern China's most influential artists. CAFA is directly administered by the Ministry of Education and is regarded as the flagship of Chinese art education. Its striking campus in Chaoyang houses a major art museum and studios that draw students from across China and abroad.
