📖 About the university
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is a public research university founded in 1911, making it the oldest higher-education institution in Hong Kong and one of the most prestigious in Asia. It grew out of the Hong Kong College of Medicine, whose graduates included Sun Yat-sen, and has since developed into a comprehensive university organised into ten faculties spanning architecture, arts, business and economics, dentistry, education, engineering, law, medicine, science, and social sciences. Its main campus sits on the slopes of Pok Fu Lam on Hong Kong Island, blending historic colonial-era buildings such as the Main Building with modern research complexes and its own MTR station. English is the medium of instruction across almost all programmes, and the university consistently ranks among the world's top 20 in the QS World University Rankings, placing 11th in the 2026 edition. HKU is especially renowned for dentistry, which has ranked first in the world, as well as for medicine, law, education, and business, and it runs the Queen Mary teaching hospital. It hosts a large and highly international student body, welcoming exchange and degree-seeking students from across the globe, and it suits high-achieving students seeking a globally connected, English-medium education in one of Asia's great cities.

🌆 About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region on the southern coast of China and one of the world's leading financial, trading, and logistics hubs, where Cantonese Chinese culture blends seamlessly with a British-influenced international outlook. Built around one of the finest deep-water harbours in the world, the territory packs a dramatic skyline of skyscrapers against steep green mountains and outlying islands, with Victoria Harbour at its heart. Its climate is humid subtropical, bringing hot, humid summers with occasional typhoons and mild, dry winters. English and Chinese are both official languages, and the city is famous for its efficient MTR metro, double-decker trams and buses, and Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Everyday life mixes Michelin-starred dining and dim sum teahouses with street markets, temples, hiking trails, and beaches, all within easy reach. For an international student, Hong Kong offers a concentration of world-ranked universities, a genuinely global environment, and easy travel across Asia, though living costs and rents are among the highest in the region.
