Opened on 10 June 2017 as the terminus of the Kuytun–Beitun–Altay railway, ending Altay City's history of having no rail service. It is now a gateway for travellers heading to the Altay Mountains and the Kanas scenic area near the Mongolia and Kazakhstan borders.
