Founded by the Baoding Cambridge Education Group — a comprehensive private education enterprise established in 1997 that runs kindergartens, schools and training centres — Wharton International School formally opened in autumn 2018 as a 9-year boarding-and-day school blending Chinese and Western education. About 10% of its teaching staff are foreign teachers from English-speaking countries holding home-country teaching qualifications, and its curriculum is built around the IB's ten learner-profile attributes alongside China's core student-development competencies.
