Zhuoluo South Mosque (Lintan)

临潭县卓洛清真南寺
📍 Lintan · Lintan County 🏛️ 1981

📜 About & history

Zhuoluo South Mosque is in Xiayuanzi Village, Zhuoluo Township, Lintan County, Gansu, about 5 km from the county town, and follows the Ikhwan tradition. The Hui of Zhuoluo settled here in 1380 (13th year of the Ming Hongwu era) with the general Mu Ying. In 1942 some villagers adopted Ikhwan practice and in 1946 built a new mosque; because the ground was damp it moved to its present site in 1954. Destroyed in 1958, it was rebuilt in 1981 and named the South Mosque. Covering about 1 mu, it has a brick-and-timber prayer hall built "five bays outside, seven inside" that holds more than 500 worshippers, plus a lecture area and ablution rooms. The mosque once ran a primary school, where Imam Ma Wanqi taught for 12 years and trained many religious scholars.
