Qingzhou Zhenjiao Temple (True Teaching Mosque)

青州真教寺
📍 Qingzhou · Dongguan, Zhaode Old Street 🏛️ 1302 (Yuan, Dade 6)

📜 About & history

The Qingzhou Zhenjiao Temple stands on Zhaode Old Street in the Hui quarter of Dongguan and, according to its stele, was established in 1302 (the sixth year of the Yuan Dade era) by descendants of the Yuan chancellor Bayan. It is counted, together with the Hangzhou and Dingzhou Zhenjiao temples, as one of the three great Zhenjiao mosques of the Yuan dynasty, and was designated an official mosque already in Yuan times. The Sino-Arab complex covers about 6,000 sq m with a building area of some 2,000 sq m, facing east and rising step by step along an axis of main gate, second gate, prayer hall and moon-watching tower. Inside is a stele bearing the Ming founder Zhu Yuanzhang's Hundred-Word Eulogy (百字赞), and the mosque has long been a centre of Islamic life in eastern Shandong.
