Zhangjiawan Mosque

张家湾清真寺
📍 Beijing · Tongzhou District 🏛️ Ming dynasty

📜 About & history

Zhangjiawan Mosque was founded in the Ming dynasty, linked to the Hui community that grew up around Grand Canal grain shipping from the Yuan dynasty onward. It is a Tongzhou District protected cultural relic. It faces east; the prayer hall has four linked roof spans, and the courtyard has an old locust tree and old cypresses. It was heavily altered during the Cultural Revolution, but most buildings survive and it is still a place of worship.
