📜 About & history
The Yining Shaanxi Great Mosque was built in 1751 under the Qianlong Emperor and expanded in 1760 and 1781. It was one of Ili's earliest mosques and the largest of the Qing-era 'Nine Cities of Ili'. First named Ningguo Temple, it took its name from the many Hui worshippers from Shaanxi and Gansu and was modelled on the Huajue Mosque in Xi'an.

Open for the five daily prayers, with the main Friday Jumu'ah gathering around midday; ablution (wudu) facilities are on site. Modest dress is requested.
