📍 Kaifeng · Gulou District 🏛️ Chenghua era (Ming dynasty)

📜 About & history

Wenshusi Street Mosque, north-east of the Drum Tower in Kaifeng, occupies the former residence of the Ming general Tang He, which became the Manjusri (Wenshu) Temple in 1415. After Yellow River floods ruined the temple in 1457, it was converted into a mosque in the Chenghua era and rebuilt in 1649. Six Ming and Qing steles survive, the main hall holds 500 worshippers, and its screen wall is the only one surviving at any Kaifeng mosque. In the Republican period it ran the Xinyu Primary School.
