The Tuqiao Upper Mosque stands in the Tuqiao community of Jinniu District, historically a Hui village on Chengdu's northwest edge. It was built in 1791 during the Qianlong reign of the Qing dynasty by about fifty local Muslim families; the nearby Tuqiao Lower Mosque, dating from the earlier Yongzheng era, distinguishes the two. It was listed as a Jinniu District cultural relic protection unit in 1984 and reinforced in 2002. A new Chinese-style gateway was added in 2018 and a full 8-million-yuan restoration of the prayer hall and other buildings was carried out from 2022.

Five daily prayers are held; the Friday Jumuah prayer at midday is the main weekly gathering.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
In the Tuqiao area of Jinniu District in Chengdu's northwest; reached by city buses along Xihua Avenue or a short taxi/DiDi from the centre.
A traditional village mosque in a longstanding Hui community with halal (清真) food nearby; modest dress required.
About a 20-30 minute drive northwest of central Chengdu toward Tuqiao / Xihua; a taxi is the simplest option.
